I went to Dublin a couple of xmas's ago, and we stayed in the Russell Court Hotel. Its very near Grafton Street, the airport bus stops just around the corner on St Stephens Green. The hotel is £79 prpn on hotels.com for the date you gave. Its a lovely hotel, but is in need of updating, and the bar, even though its nice, can be very noisy, but you get earplugs in your room. Its one of those hotels where you dont pay a lot so you dont expect a lot, but we thought it was lovely, and very well placed in the city centre.
You're so very special, I wish I was special

Check out www.hotelscombined.com. We are also going there in September and were thinking of staying at the North Star Hotel which is near Connolly railway station and only about a 10 minute walk from O Connell St.

the russell court is on harcourt street , just south of grafton street and stephens green . 15 minute walk to temple bar

now be warned , there are 2 night clubs in the basement of this hotel and friday and saturday you will not sleep before 4am if you want to . and if you are unluck enough to get a front facing room , the kegs get rolled by the dray man at 7am every sat/sun oh and the tram runs right outside

the rooms are of a 2 star rating maximum . really its 2 night clubs with the hotel over and not the opposite . fun tho if you want to be drinking all night and no sleep

Thanks for the link. Really useful and will be using it again in the future for sure

Went with Ardmore as it had really good reviews on Tripadvisor and the rate was great. Hope you enjoy your time in Dublin!

I have stayed at Elisa Lodge twice. it is on the edge of Temple Bar, couldn't be more central, but not noisy. The rooms are lovely and there is a little lounge where you can help yourself to coffee etc.

Breakfast is in the Elisa Blue Cafe round the corner and is the best I've ever had!

You do realise you will have to get a bus into the city and most likely a cab back each night? With the added price of that plus around €50 a night for the room you can get a far better deal in the city centre.

Ardmore is located on the outskirts of Glasnevin & Finglas. Finglas is the roughest place in Dublin, luckily enough for you the immediate area around the Ardmore isn't too bad as it's on a main road.

You could have got something a whole lot better.

    Finglas

I read lots of reviews before I booked the room. I have no problem with the 15mins bus ride into town. I am travelling with my child so not really going to be doing the late nights in town type of trip.

Also having lived in some rough areas of London, not really that fazed

I been taking trips to Dublin for as long as I can recall. Recently (as I'm now approaching 40) I have got fed up with the City centre hotels, where at weekend sleep is hard to get. So, I look at the LUAS (tram) line and head out of town. Last year I stayed in Tallaght where quite a few new hotels are competing for trade. This involves a 30 minute tram ride into the centre. Another good option if you dont mind a short tram ride followed by a 15 minute (slightly uphill) walk is the IMI Residence (Irish Management Institute) which is like a travelodge attached to a Business School. It's certainly out-of-town but it's decent accommodation at a very low rate! However there is little to do at night here.

You may also want to consider the Bewleys at Leopardstown. Again a 20 minute Luas ride to the end of the line, followed by a short walk that involves a busy dual carriageway, but there are crossings a plenty (I thought I'd mention this as you said about your child). However they do good rates if you prebook and when I stay kids are always welcome in the public areas (bar/restaurant etc).

For all these options you will need to factor in about an extra £5 a day for a LUAS day ticket and up to 40 minutes each way travel time. However they all offer good value.

EDIT: Just read that you have already booked. Whoops! Anyway?
