Best saving option ?

Can anyone please advice me about some reliable major banks that offer best saving rate in this situation:
- I will not use these money for over one year, but I want to have it accessible at the end of the year, just in case. I've read about bonds, never tried before, how safe it is, and what other options you trust ?
- it is a large sum for me (although others can earn it in one month)
- what is a good rate number, for present days ?
(I wont run for the highest rate, but I get less than 1% with Barclays at present and is poor)

Ok when you talk about bonds you are talking Fixed Rate savings.
These gaurentee you a rate for X period (6 months, 1 year, 2 year and so on). However in that time (with majority of fixed rates), you cannot withdraw without losing a significant amount of interest.
Halifax I have found the best when setting up fixed rate savings for those that are new, as the process is very simple.
But you have said you want access by the end of the year, but you don't need access for another year.... which is it?0 -
Thanks for info Lokolo!
One more thing, as I need to move a sum over 1.000 from one bank to another, is the transfer between banks reliable if I do it online, or should I go to the bank ?0 -

Online is fine, just make sure you double check the numbers you have typed in before pressing submit.0
