Increases from last year...
Right, I didn't really believe when people have been saying how much gas and electricity has increased, but today I received my electricity bill - it's increased by £50 from the same period last year! I switched from Scottish Gas to Scottish Hydro and my bill increased by £130 over the winter period, and now the electricity has increased massively as well! I am absolutely furious, I know there's nothing I can do, changing suppliers doesn't seem to be the answer as changing from Scottish Gas has increased my gas bill massively, but surely electricity hasn't increased that much! I am extremely careful with the heating and lighting, my house is an old hospital that we're renovating so we really can't afford high utility bills and are really careful, don't have a tumble dryer, only light the rooms we're actually sitting in, but it just seems ridiculous that even when using comparison sites and working out voltage or whatever it is, that we're being stuffed! Up here in rural Scotland heating is not a luxury,it's an absolute essential, but no matter how careful I am it seems that the bills just keep increasing and increasing and there is nothing to be done about it! This is just a rant mainly, but I wondered if anyone else is finding the same thing?

I watched a programme on water supply last night and it is disconcerting to see how much power over our pockets the utility companies have. We all complain about the rising cost, but we nearly all stick with the same groups of companies because we believe that solar and small wind turbines are too costly to have installed by working out the number of years it will take to recoup our outlay at today's prices. What we forget is, that these same companies' suppliers (Russian gas and French nuclear electricity at least) can switch us off if they feel like it. I for one, am determined to save up enough money to buy my own supply. I think it will have to be a mixture of solar, wind and generator. Generator to guarantee 24 hour supply and then the others to be more eco friendly.alyth wrote:I didn't really believe when people have been saying how much gas and electricity has increased
Nigel. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.
