Post Office Check and Send for Passports

Hi there

Can't seem to find any threads on this, sorry if I've missed one!

What are people's experiences of using this service? Do people think it's worth the money?

I'm changing my name to my married name and renewing hubbie's. Can't decide whether to use this service or not, don't mean to be tight, but it all adds up, particularly with how much passports cost now! And we need to get it done on Sat morning to avoid the price hikes.

Thanks

too many comps..not enough time!

I did my passport through the post office. I found it easier and gave me piece of mind. Also usually you receive your passport back faster than just sending in the post.

Thanks for letting us know that the prices go up, need to put oh's in!!
  • I wouldn't even entertain paying someone else to 'check and send' something I can 'check and send' myself for nothing!

You just need to read the form through thoroughly and get hubby to check them after you.
  • I didn't use the PO system and had new passport back within days but it was during the winter months when its perhaps a quieter time for the passport office.

I don't need it back urgently so it's not too much of a worry on that score. I kind of thought the same thing about checking it, but judging by how blooming confusing I seemed to find the website, I wondered if I might need it!!

No use asking H to double check it - he's terrible with things like this and just does as I say...well trained! :)

I always tend to use it, but the time before last I sent ds1's with the check and send, the po cleared it and it was still returned by the passport people as the back ground was too light on the pic!!!! but hey ho used them this time for ds 2 and all was fine, you can also check up on line to see how it progressing this way

I used it, the post office said the passport office would have a problem with the picture I submitted but it was fine
only took 5/10minutes in the post office, I was in a rush to get the passport back think it was just over a week before I got it, I found the change of name bits on the passport form a bit confusing so I just had it all checked and they said if they got it wrong they refund your fee you paid to the post office

I recently had to get two new passports and decided after reading this thread to send one through the post as normal and get the post office to check & send one to see if it was quicker. I also made sure that the post office one was a simple renewal for a five year old, whilst the one I sent myself was a brand new one for a 2 month year old.

Despite possibly having the harder job the one I sent myself arrived back a day before the one sent though check and send. They were both very quick - certainly under two weeks.

So in my opinion the check and send applications are not fast tracked. You are paying for somebody to check the form and as it is not a difficult form to fill in you might as well just take a bit more care and not make any mistakes.

    John.

If your not in a rush to get them back for a trip i wouldnt bother with check n send, just check them carefully and send them off and if they're not right they'll just return them you rectify what was wrong and send them back.
