A hard Egg to crack

Mrs Meanscot would like to open the new Egg easy access account, paying 3.25% AER inc. 2% bonus as the nasty Tesco people dropped their rates without telling Mrs M. (She knows she could open another Tesco saver at 3 % and close the old one
but she wants away from Tesco for not telling her about dropping their interest rate.)

This is because Mrs Meanscot does not have to pay interest on her saving accounts and likes instant access with good interesat rates.

The problem is that the bEggers need identification that is less than 3 months old containing Mrs M's address and name. Suggested acceptable documents are Telephone bills, Credit or Store cars Council tax or utility bills.

Being a bad meanscot, phone bill, utility bills, credit and store cards are all in my name.

When Mrs M contacted the bEggers regarding this they said bank statements, ISA statements, etc were acceptable but had to be less than 3 months old. All Mrs Meanscots statements / acceptable documents were more than 3 months old dated around 6th April.

The man from Del Eggo he say no. He suggested photocopies of Mrs M's driving licence and passport certified by a lawyer (at a cost to Mrs M) would be acceptable. Said goodlady informed Del Eggo man that lawyers and bankers were amongst the lowest life form on the planet and not a halfpenny would she part with to such lowlife.

Looks like Mrs Meanscot will have to go with the nice A&L people but only getting 3.15% from their Online Saver Issue 5 with an initial deposit of £1000. A& L are more relaxed with required identification documentation with up to 6 months old documents being acceptable.

Can anyone suggest how Mrs M can crack this paricular Egg.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper
Close Tesco account and request closing statement.
Use this to verify ID with Egg.

Or just request statement from Tesco if they will do it free of charge.

I have two old passports and use those quite often. Also, has MrsA got a Notice of Coding or anything from DWP?

    Hi anselld and Jake'sGran

Notice of coding and DWP stuff more than 3 months old.

Might try Tesco for a free statement.

    I think old Passports shredded.

    Thanks for suggestions.

Nasty tesco people? I thought they've been one of the best at informing when rates have changed, in some cases putting a warning on their website weeks in advance, and I know i've been sent a couple of letters either in advance or one day after a rate change.

By comparison, Egg never sent me anything as they dropped their rate to 1.25%

If A&L is the order of the day, do it via Quidco and (eventually) get £20 consolation prize
