Considering planning a surprise party...

Hi!
It's my mum's 50th coming up. It's not until May next year, but I'm starting to think of ideas now. I was thinking of a surprise party, but I'm not too sure how to go about it. I've no idea how to keep it a surprise, to start! Or how to invite everyone. It would just be me planning it, so I'd have to find a location, buffet, entertainment etc, but I'd really like to do it for my mum. Has anyone planned a surprise party, and has any tips for me?
Thanks!

can you not involve another family member to help you organise things? Decide first on what sort of celebration you want to have. Either a nice family meal or a large gathering and then book your venue well in advance.
Get a good idea on numbers and interest from people.
Speak to close family and friends and get them on board0 -
Try to get some help - a close friend of your mums maybe... Or a family member who can contact all the people you want to invite. Start planning now...decide what kind of food you want to have, who will be invited, possible venue ideas, decorations, cake etc.
Let people know well in advance and give them a time that they have to arrive by. Plan something else for your mum that day (e.g. you and her going for a meal) as an excuse to get her dressed up and ready to party! Tell everyone to bring cameras and that way they can also be sent to you after the party. You can compile a birthday album for your mum using all the best pictures as a gift.0
