Ebay Buyer says the 7" record they bought "Is badly Damaged". Paypal dispute

I sold a Vinyl 7" pic disc as a test because I am a new seller. It sold for 99p and I insisted it was sent royal mail special delivery. The buyer paid £6.99 and I promptly sent it. The following day, they emailed to say they had received it and then went on to say it was "badly damaged and scratched". I replied saying i would not send a badly damaged record and that i had owned the record for nearly 20 years and if they wernt happy i would refund them, even though in the ebay ad, I said no refunds.
They then opened a Paypal dispute almost immediately (within 1 day).
I have offered to repay half what they paid and said they can keep the record. To be honest, I can't be arsed dealing with this buyer as I was only testing the waters to see what it was like to sell. And from this experience, have decided, not to bother again, so don't care about the feedback. Any suggestions?????
I have emailed the buyer, but no response.

Sounds like the buyer is trying it on as you are a new seller and therefore eager to please. Tell him to send it back to you then you'll refund them. Part of the resolution scheme is that the buyer is supposed to go through it with you to try and find a solution before putting in disputes, so they should be responding to you. Get in touch with Ebay about your concerns.
However the wisdom of sending a 99p record special delivery has got to be questioned. Standard mail with signature on delivery is significantly cheaper and all you need if your item is less than £39. There is no way I'd ever pay that charge for a 99p item, and should you decide to continue selling you need to revisit that decision.0 -

Totally agree with that. Ask them to return for a refund as thats what paypal will tell them to do0 -
Thanks for that. I should have realised i was being set up as a victim when they
specifically asked before buying. "Does this come with original backing card and clear sleeve?". They obviously knew all about the record, as I failed to add this to the ad.
How long does it take for a dispute to esculate into a claim? Not been in here for years. Life got hectic!0 -
I had this response from the buyer, only because I made a dispute on ebay.
"I HAVE SPOKEN TO EBAY REGARDING THIS MATTER.THE ITEM WAS PAID FOR SHORTLY AFTER THE AUCTION END.
COULD
BUYER PLEASE COMMUNICATE VIA PAYPAL SO I CAN RECEIVE A FULL REFUND AND THE MATTER WILL BE CLOSED.
THANK
YOU.
Note, it says "BUYER". I am the seller, maybe he's using a template for all his frauds and as for "SPOKEN TO EBAY"
I have tried contacting ebay, and its just a go round in circles unmanned phoneline, unless you are a power seller.
Any advice? Not been in here for years. Life got hectic!0 -
Dispute was item unpaid. As Paypal as taken funds paid due to dispute. I only did this to get his attention, as emails were being ignored. It woke him him up> response was crap, but as i pasted. He made huge mistakesNot been in here for years. Life got hectic!0

Hmm, I always thought ebay could give you a "talking toDispute was item unpaid. As Paypal as taken funds paid due to dispute. I only did this to get his attention, as emails were being ignored. It woke him him up> response was crap, but as i pasted. He made huge mistakes
" for opening an NPB when the buyer's paid but you've lost/ going to lose/ in the process of a dispute. Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

Dispute was item unpaid.
Ebay are never happy when people do this just to get someones attention. What you should have done is let the buyer do the running as you are totally within rights to ask them to return the item for a refund (because thats what paypal will say if they open a dispute). By opening that dispute the buyer may assume you really don't know what your doing so it may encourage them to continue
Let the buyer do the worrying at the moment they are the one after something (a refund) so let them jump through hoops. If they contact you just keep repeating to them to return the item.
Oh I hope you've put them on your blocked bidders list.0 -
You opened a dispute for an unpaid even though buyer had paid
I'm completely lost now.
Potentially now then you face losing the original payment once paypal refund on its safe return. You face a seller non performance warning for fraudulent use of the dispute system and as a buyer any seller who opened an NPB on me when I had paid would be facing a non positive as well.
Also, due to the fact that you wanted to use special on a 99p item a 50% refund was probably not looking generous to him. He paid £6.99 and you want to give him back £3.50 for a record he feels is faulty. A proper collector as he sounds like as he asked about inserts etc before he bid would only want something perfect.
Compare your £3.50 offer with the cost he faces to return it for a full refund, which will be approx £1.51. 76p postage and 75p recorded and you can see why he is probably not happy.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If being messed about by a screamer the first time you used ebay has put you off using ebay again, then just do nothing and forget about the whole thing."Love you Dave Brooker! x"
