Well they seem to be placing the blame on him as there is no concrete evidence on anyone. I don't see how they can punish one person for this? It is their fault they don't have cctv covering the whole room! Its silly if you think about it, a place where large sums of money are dealt with and there isn't any decent cctv!!
What a horrible situation. I think he needs to stick to his guns and investigate all avenues, as at the end of the day they have no proof he took that money. Good luck."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
Firstly I think you need to calm down (easier said than done I know) and think about this logically.
- What are the proceedures for cashing up - presumably there is paperwork to back up the amounts in each till.....what happens if a till is short (OK won't be £400 short but you get my drift)
- What are the proceedures for banking - do they bank daily or weekly.....what paperwork is there for backing up the amounts banked?
From where did the money go missing - was it in a safe etc? If so who had access to that safe? When / how did the loss become obvious?2014 Target;

I know that, it just seems unfair (i know life is in general sometimes) but i am trusting the OP that he didn't take it...so who did then? Mystery! Sounds like a dodgy place anyway, with all the stuff that goes missing. Maybe the place should think about bumping up their security.

The thing is £400 is not a small amount of money and my second thoughts on the subject are is that if they are accusing the OP's OH of theft, then why hasn't the plice been brought in?2014 Target;

Is he in a union? Phone them for advice, or if not do you have legal protection on your home insurance, as that covers employment disputes.
Best of luck.:hello:0 -

You said the disciplinary is for not following the procedure of sitting together rather than the theft. If that is the case then the company should need to prove that he was aware of this.
Do they have a cash office procedure? In what way was he trained? Simply being told what to do or with any written documentation? You say he doesnt have training documentation, but has he signed anything that they will have kept?
Have the company sent out the evidence that is to be presented at the meeting? Have they included his training file? That would be a good indication of if he has been trained on this (or if he has signed something and not read it thoroughly).
Saying that as he has been employed for less than a year he can (with a few exceptions, discrimination etc) be dimissed without many problems.
I have (unfortunately) been involved in many similar disciplinaries from the company's side so if I can help with anything just ask!
Good Luck0
