I have just sign up for 18185 for most of our calls during weekdays and mobile phones. My wife and I used pay as you go mobiles and not heavy users. Can we use 18185 to override our mobile calls to cut down more on our mobile spending? I also noticed since having Primus as our CPS that their is no facility for leaving messages, how can we activate one? many thanks.

Your line is still a BT line and your incoming calls arrive on BT. Hence, if you don't mind forcing callers to pay their provider's connection or minimum call charge if you are already on the phone when they call, activate BT's 1571 (it's free).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
For use from your mobile, there are no networks with free calls to freephone numbers, so no use for calls to UK landlines. Depending which network tariff you are on, it could be worthwhile for UK mobiles, 0870 and 0845 numbers. It would certainly be good for foreign numbers.0

Thanks Heinz just called BT today to activate 1571 which will take 24 hours. I don't seem to understand the point Redux was trying to make on mobile override. We are not interested in calling 0870 and 0845 numbers from our mobile phone. The question I was asking is, can we use 18185 to override the calls from our mobile phones let say when we are using the phone outside? We are both with O2.0

I think what you are trying to say is can you use 18185 from your mobiles.
The answer is yes if you register them with 18185 you can call the 0808 or 020 mobile access numbers from them. But different rates apply to them as opposed to 18185 direct from your landline. See http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php
You will also have to pay the appropriate payg rates to ring these access numbers so their is unlikely to be any benefit in doing so.
EG. Calling 01/02 number from Mobi would cost Payg Rate per minute.plus 4p connection and 1p a minute on 18185.
What PAYG network/tariff are you on?0 -
Hurrah thanks. That is basically what I was trying to ask and thanks for the clarification. We are with O2 PAYG. If its unlikely to benefit us then we would stick with calling directly from our mobile but if its cheaper then I'll give it a go.I am not even sure how much is the rate/minute calling same network or other networks. Do you have link to know their rates? Many thanks.0
