Can anyone help please, i need to know how i can get the depts that i have paid off cleared from my credit report as they are still stopping me opening a decent bank account etc. Any assistance/advice would be very much appreciated. I've never had a CCJ but the debt was dealt with by collection agency (AIC), they have sent me a letter stating everything is now paid off, will this help?
Thanks
SV

It depends on what si on your report.

Is it CCJ's, defaults, late payments?

Late payments have little impact on your credit score after 2 years and even after 1 year the impact should be minimal.

A Default will stay on your credit file for 6 years. Were you sent a default notice when it was first issued? If not then you may be able to get it removed (but this is usually a struggle). If you did get the default notice, then there isn't much you can do - you may be able to argue that the agreement didn't contain all the required terms and is therefore unenforcable, which in turn means they didn't have the right to pass your data on to a 3rd party, but again - that's an even bigger longshot. (Make sure that the default date is correct - it should be within 6 months of the actual default and not the date that the default was put on your credit file).

For a CCJ, this stays on your credit file for a MINIMUM of 6 years. It may be renewed on your file each year after this if it is still outstanding. After it is paid off you can get it marked as satisfied, but there's not really anything you can do against a valid CCJ. You may be able to get a CCJ set aside if you were unaware of it's existance, but other than that i can't think of anything.

Its possible to "move up" one grade of bank account at a time. depends on like George says, what is actually on there.

Also don't forget that too many searches when you apply for something get recorded on there and that can also cause refusals.

How recent is your credit report Viking?
