Cheap Mobile for South Africa

Hi

I'm going to South Africa on my honeymoon in just under three weeks time. While we're over there I thought it would be a good idea to use a local mobile provider but neither of our mobiles are unlockable; which is a shame as I have previously seen sim cards in SA for 1 ZAR (7p!).

Therefore we need a cheap unlocked mobile; where would be the best place to find one and does anyone know if it would be cheaper to buy something over there?

I think you may be better off by buying a very cheap basic mobile here and having it unlocked if it comes with a network, mobiles are not cheap in S.A. I realise that is a sweeping statement, but you don't want to go trying to hunt down a cheapo phone. Buying a local sim is dirt cheap and their payg rates are good in comparison to ours read the charges that come with the sim, as they have different tarrifs during the day & w/end, and vodacom have the best signal coverage.
