Hi
I am after some inspiration please! I am running an American themed day for about 12 - 20 children aged 2 - 9, and want some simple ideas (thought it would be a good idea when I offered to do it!!!!)
Basically - we normally run crafts for about an hour, have snack, the children play, have lunch, then some games before people go home.

maybe for the older kids a game of baseball or basketball, if u can find one of them adjustable basketball hoops the smaller ones could join in too.
maybe learn americas national anthem?? (bit random that one!)
craft wise you could make some long top hats, abraham lincoln style, or cowboy hats like a ranch
erm,,, do u have sweets? u can buy them little jelly hamburgers?0 -

why not see if you can find a pair of cowboy boots in a charity shop and do a "who can toss the boot the furthest" for the older kiddies.
also what about "panning for gold" using plastic gold coins which can then be swapped for choc gold coins.0 -

Hi one option is to go for a disney party http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.urmblog.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/disney-party-at-hope-gardens-043-22.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.urmblog.org/2009/04/14/a-disney-easter-at-hope-gardens/&usg=__359IFDNK9ToBajDbOuVBnvoU_24=&h=301&w=324&sz=35&hl=en&start=21&um=1&tbnid=vWBi6Lzp1fe3lM:&tbnh=110&tbnw=118&prev=/images%3Fq%3Ddisney%2Bparty%2Bgames%26ndsp%3D20%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26start%3D20%26um%3D1Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
loving the ideas - all the children will enjoy basketball! (and toss the boot!) Going to look for jelly hamburgers, and will adapt a panning for gold game
Did think about a disney party - but thought that if they paint - mums wont want them wearing disney costumes!!!
Thanks - and please keep the ideas coming!0 -
Hmm, a few ideas
> Tell them the story of Thanks Giving
> play cowboys & indians - could be encorporated with crafts, make your own headress/cowboy hat
> Make a jigsaw of the United States and get them to put it back together
> have your own Boston Tea Party - without throwing tea in the sea of course:D
> Get an atlas or something and ask them to find as many "British" place names as they can in America - they'll be loads! Obvioulsy New England will have plenty
For food, beans?! I'm thinking cowboy there!Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
scuzz do you really think it's okay to re-enact cowboys and indians in the 21st Century?0
-
When I was little cowboys and indians meant we split in to teams - cowboys & indians - and then went on a treasure hunt to capture the flag, where the treasure would be. There were two different routes to the flag, depending on what clues you were following. Just a team game where I was, that's allComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0

Just to update - the children had a fab time, 20 very tired children - many thanks once again!0
