0% transfer and 0% purchase

I have a barclay card breathe at the mo which is due to expire soon

The rule of the thumb is not use the same card for both purchase and BT unless both have the same period of 0%. At present there are none in this category - some have 3 months of 0% purchase and 9-12 months of 0% BT...not at all suitable for purchase and BT at the same time unless you are super-disciplined. A suggestion would be to decide which is more important and go with either 0% BT or purchase for the longest period that you can get.

I've answered this question for you on the *Best Balance Transfer* sticky, where you first posted.

Although Virgin have 0% for 3 months for purchases and 0% for 16 months for transfers with one of their cards (I see they do a 9 month, no BT fee card as well), they will take your monthly payment off the special offer which ends first.

So for example make a £200 purchase and do a balance transfer when first getting the card, providing you can pay off the £200 purchase within the 3 months, then you won't pay any interest on it and then you get the remaining 13 months to pay off the BT at 0%.

The problem starts if you only pay off £100 of the purchase, the other £100 will then keep attracting interest, until the BT has been paid off.

The Halifax all in one card, offers 0% on both balance transfers and purchases for 9 months.
