Christening ideas???

Hi, we have got about 60-70 people coming to my sons christening in a month!!! We are doing a buffet luch (ourselves) and I need some cheap (but look nice) food ideas. Also i'm looking at putting little bunches of flowers on each table but I need to find some really cheap small glass vases? Any ideas would be great. I've got a place to get the flower posies for £1 each and they are about 4 inches high.
Any help or ideas would be great. Also any cake ideas/tips???
Thanks.

For vases, are these any good... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40113180

For food how about french bread/rolls, cold meats, cheese and some salad options such as homemade coleslaw, pasta salad...

Are you going to make a cake or buy it? If you are looking to make it, how about cupcakes instead, something like these... http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4434/romantic-rose-cupcakes. Or this one for a big cake... http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10860/easy-vanilla-cake. To buy one I would suggest looking in Cost Co, their celebration cakes are huge and around £10 I think. You can also have them personalised.

Good luck with all the arrangements x

How about mini gift bags instead of a vase?

I recently got Oriental Flowers presented in a gift bag and they looked fabulous! really unusual :D

I just googled mini gift bags and starting prices are only £3.50 for 10 bags!

    Just a thought ;)

if you fancy doing your own cake go to http://www.cakebaker.co.uk/VideoIceWeddingCake.html and just put a little me to you bear or something on the top. you can also get ready coloured sugarpaste and use cookie cutters to put a name on it or in hobbycraft they sell ready piped plaques to put ontop of cakes.
If you're feeling really crafty you could make your own dec's.

I wouldn't worry about table flowers just put a bit of confetti down.
If you have lots of little ones going - set up a table of their own with coloring sheets and a pot of pencils or a sack of mixed toys to keep them occupied - it worked a treat a my youngest sons christening. We even did a little scavenger hunt e.g find 3 things that are green, a picture of the queen ( on a coin;)), etc.. They had about 10 things to find and got sweets at the end.

That's a good idea, thanks. I'll put a nice play mat down with some toys for the children to play with I think. 14 babies and toddlers so far- plus a few teenagers i'm hoping will play with them!

  • I did these bookmark/favours for a friends christening. I put a small photo and the little ones name on the back then laminated them, punched a hole through the top and put some ribbon through.

Quite happy to email them to you, I have got 20 different verses and they can be easily tweaked as need be if you wanted to replace the clipart with a photo of the little one or put their name at the top.

Not sure where abouts in the UK you are but Ikea do lovely little vases for 49p. they are the right kind of size for the flowers being approx 4inches high :)

At my sons christening, we asked our friends to bake a single muffin (cupcake). We then put them on a cakestand (we hired ours) and they looked fab, everyone felt a part of the day.

Ebay have some cheapies to buy, dont know if you can still rent them.....there are lots of different ones and sizes but this may give you an idea....you could always make the cakes yourself, better than risking a big cake going wrong!

We went to a friends christening, and they had milky bars (and similar) which they had taken the wrappers off (just the sleeve not the foil!) and replaced with a printed sleeve (they did it themselves) with the childs name, church and date on. Was a really cool favour. No reason you can't do it yourselves.....they werent like this but you get the idea....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100-Personalised-Chocolate-Christening-Party-Favours_W0QQitemZ380146085874QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET?hash=item588278eff2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
