do i have to buy the item if ive won?

Ive just won an item and i commited to purchase another of the same from the seller. Its just that ive seen a cheaper one near my shops. Is there anyway out of this. I mean what is the worst that could happen. Ive not done this before.

Worst case scenario is a NPB strike. Remember it says 'commit to buy'... you're not meant to back out.

Unfortunately this is your problem and not the sellers. If you can get the item cheaper locally then perhaps you could sell the ebay item on yourself.

Probably not want you wanted to hear but it's always sensible to shop around a bit before going to ebay so you know what a good price is before bidding.

The worst that will happen is that you will receive a negative and a strike against your account as a non buyer, 3 or more and your account will be suspended. Dont bid if you are not going to buy. It costs sellers to list and also when its won they also pay a FVF fee. So its not a matter of the seller just forgetting about it and relisting it. Either pay it and relist it on ebay yourself later on or explain to seller and offer to pay his listing costs etc as a goodwill gesture.

Do you meant that you've committed to buy a second item from the seller, outside of eBay? In that case, so long as you haven't paid, just cancel the second one.

There's no legal obligation to proceed on either of the sales, so long as you haven't paid. However ebay T&C's expect you to complete the transaction (and, I would suggest, there's a moral obligation) so you're likely to see negative feedback and a non-paying buyer strike against you if you don't complete. Three strikes and you're out with a suspended ebay account.

When you place a bid you are in effect signing a contact, so there will be consequences if you fail to go through.

Morally, you've made a deal and now you can get it cheaper, you're trying to justify a way of saving yourself some money.

I guess I'd say treat others how you'd want to be treated - put yourself in their shoes if you were to say you didn't want the product and all the hassel that goes with that.

how much more money are you saving from buying it locally? if it is the sake of a few £ then just think that you are paying to have it delivered to your door!

If you really don't want it then make something up to the seller, I would be annoyed if someone told me they didn't want it cos they can get it cheaper! The seller can end the transaction by using the 'Buyer and seller mutually agreed to finish contract' or whatever it is - I have used this a couple of times and the seller nor buyer gets any comeback, the seller gets the fees back and no npb strike for you! but I would be extra nice to the seller if you want this.

Was the second item on a Buy it Now or Auction?, the seller should be able to cancel your bid (if its an Auction style) and see you have already have bought one of the items. I would explain that you are only needing one item and see what they say......freddy

If you win something you should go through with it but even Ebay say that buyers or sellers cannot be forced to complete a sale so in the end you will only get a strike against your name and possibility of some negative feedback

ask the seller nicely and OFFER TO PAY HIS FEES, they'll only be a few quid and will help prevent you being negged.-

    that way everyone's happy

otherwise, you deserve everything you get "you time wasting scumbag ;-)"

(thats how the seller will see it)

But this highlights the importance of knowing your market before you buy.

Thoroughly check prices prior to buying. On many items I am more than happy to pay a premium just to avoid the 20 mile drive into the town. Saves me petrol; time and the chance of being hit by a bus... :)

You really should go through with it but as suggeseted you might get away with offering to pay his fees. As a seller I tend to sort these things out in this way because if you force someone into a purchase many things can then happen...normally item not as described or it arrives broken!!!
