A competency based interview is where they will mainly ask for examples of things you have done, rather than, "Tell me about yourself/your current role/your biggest weakness." If (as I'm assuming) your application form was like this as well, then I would prepare very specific examples for each of the things you had to answer on in the form. Also be prepared for them to ask you lots of questions about the answers you give. It might also be worth thinking about other key things you have done that don't necessarily fit into one of the competencies you have. For example, in one interview I was asked for an example of a time when I was praised for my work (or something like that). I wasn't expecting anything like that at all and it kind of threw me.
If you do a google search for "Competency based interview" there is loads of information out there. The best advice I've heard is to answer with a STAR approach:
Situation
Task
Action
Result
I hope that helps for the time being. I'm sure there will be others with more advice (I have never interviewed anyone in my life, so there should be people with more experience).
Finally, congratulations on getting an interview!! That is a pretty big achievement in itself, at the moment.0 -
