New job starts on Mon but got another interview tomorrow!

Got a really nice job lined up starting on Monday. Very excited about it, 1st "proper" job in 5 years after having kids etc. Is a step down from last position. Pays enough to just scrape by with childcare etc.

But just found out have job interview for more prestigious company tomorrow. Pays a massive £6000 more. At same level I left 5 years ago. More responsibility, more varied work, not as mundane.

For obvious reasons I would really like job #2, not just for money although that would be fandabbydozey.

So what happens if I get offered job 2 say on Friday? Unlikely anyway as prob need 2nd interview.

Job 1 contract says 2 weeks notice in probabation period. I'm guessing if offered job before monday I should contact HR and they would probably tell me not to bother coming in.

Should I tell job 2 at the interview about position? It might make them make a decision sooner? Or should I just wait, start j!!! and hand notice in if get job 2?

Any help gratefully received.

  • PS why on earth has "j o b 1" been censored? I don't get that!
  • i assume you will have a probation period with number 1? where you give 1 weeks notice in probation period? if so you can resign adn say it isnt for you.. rather than not start or delay the start on the basis of a 1st interview. If it is a large company for job 2 i expect there will be 2nd interviews/refs needed etc
