Log Burner

We opened the fire place in our Victorian Semi last year and enjoyed open fires all winter. After opening, the chimney was swept and the draw checked and off we went.

We are now getting the house ready to rent it out and are considering fitting a log burner.

Is it compulsary to have the chimney lined. We have been told we will need to have it lined by the local log burner dealers (they have not inspected the chimney)but a work colleague has just fitted there burner without a lining. They just fitted a 'cap' in the chimney.

As we are renting the property we want to keep everything legal.

Can anyone help as we are being quoted over £1000 just to line the chimney.
