Bit of a random question, girlfriend works in a large well known Department Store and its been shut this afternoon as the drains were overflowing with sewage and several customers were sick
She, along with about 30 others were sent home, and will find out when they go back once its sorted (Environmental health were called in)
Do the employees still get paid, as its not their fault they got sent home? They had said thy were gonig home this morning and management said 'if you go home, you wont get paid'
Any advice greatly recieved

If it the deparment store I am thinking of and the one I used to work for, I don't think they will be paid for it, as they only get paid for hours worked, even if it's not their fault.
However, she could ask if she can make up the hours later in the week so she still works the same total hours that she usually does.
Or if she has any time-in-lieu accumulated, so could ask to use that up to ensure she gets paid her normal wage for the month.0
