Hey all,
Right we are off to Hong Kong for 5 days, as we have a friend who lives there. So this part of the trip is a must!!!
We want to spend 8 days in another county, but no idea where.
Maybe Malaysia or Sri Lanka???
Any ideas and experiences welcome.
Especially interested in flight times and prices
Any experiences of Hong Kong as well.
Cheers

It would depend on what you like to see/do and also what your budget is as this will dictate the airline and options. And if, you know, your history...0

I did HK then Langkawi for the beach element. You could always try Taipai as that isnt that far away either.
There are lots of things to do in HK. The organised tours of the New Territory are good and saves alot of hassle, I wouldnt recommend hiring a car here!
In Kowloon use the trams to get around, very cheap, and you see all the same things as the city tour (plus more real HK), plus you get to interact more with the locals. I was asked to help out with some English homework while sat on a tram.
Its worth tracking down the Dim Sum restaurants that the locals use, same with all restaurants off the beaten track, as they are a fantastic experience. I was lucky as I met up with a relative that works out there and he knew where to go, which turned out to be a whole floor of an office block.
On the Island there are plenty of sights, if you have time get out to the smaller islands.
Unfortunately you will land at the new airport and not Kowloon. That was brilliant.0 -
It really depends on what you're looking for in a holiday/country. Using HK for a starting point to visit the rest of China would be a good idea and would probably give you an extra day or two holiday (when you take into account flying time, waiting at airports etc.)
If it was me and I hadn't been there before, I'd go to Thailand.0 -
right well thinking of a trip in the national parks to see some wildlife and jungle! The other half is not too keen on sand, so i might get away with 1 day on the beach.
Looking at airfares Sri Lanka is coming in around £600 and Malaysia £900, so Sri Lanka looks like a winner.
The budget is £2000 - £2500

Isn't China expensive and vast? Thats why we are thinking of spending 8 days in Sri Lanka/Malaysia.
I would love to do Thailand, but the misses has already been._____________________________________________

Normally cheap flights to the Philippines from HK. Just had a look in September and it works out around £100 return. Only 2 hour flight as well.0

Hmmm, tricky. You could do Sri Lanka, sopend some time there chilling, on a beach and travelling around but then fly over to India and try and see some tigers! Loads of low cost airlines fly within India and travel is cheap and I'm fairly sure some of them fly between Indi and Sri lanka. And if, you know, your history...0

Or, if you fancy India, you could fly from London via Delhi with Air India. fares are reasonable, you could see the Taj Mahal, New delhi itself and also organsie a tiger excursion. Simples. And if, you know, your history...0

Check out Air Asia and see when you can get for next to nothing either from HK or Macau just over the water.0

I would say India, fly from London via Delhi is so cheap now, only 280 for return.0
