a string of ebay misfortunes

Somethin's wrong with me this week as i seem to be making a string of mistakes on ebay.
First I bought a watch for a good price, was really pleased with myself but then somehow managed to pay for it twice through paypal. Phoned paypal in a panic (an 0870 number I may add) but they said there was nothing they could do. I would just have to email the seller and rely on their goodwill to refund it. I told them I don't believe in the goodwill of random people, but it seems the last resort is to file a complaint with paypal. But having read all the posts about how tedious and useless the ebay/paypall complaints system is I'm really not looking forward to this. (Is there anyway I could take them through the small claims court?)
Second I bought a camera. Really good deal and from a reliable power seller. However forgot to pay for it in the first 24 hours so got an email saying I forfeited it. Phoned them up (0870 again) got it sorted, paid online. There was a confusing option of paying buy credit card or paypal. Got a bit confused thought I'd paid directly by cc, but then got an email from paypal saying sale hasn't been completed. So went and completed it on paypal, but then had the horrible thought that I may have paid for this twice as well!! DOH! :wall:
Not a good week, facing another call to that 0870 number tomorrow to clear things up. Plus wanted to get some bargains in the bank holiday weekend, being stuck in my room revising that was about my only compensation, but find prices actually higher than normal.
Sigh. Sorry for the long rant. What I actually wanted to ask is regard to the first problem, any chance I'd get that money back?

Have you asked the seller if they will give you your money back on the extra payment?0

If the seller doesn't refund then you need to file as item not received, by going into your pay pal account and clicking on dispute. You'll get your money back as they obviously wont have a tracking number as they wont have sent you 2 watches.
Any good seller will just refund though so mail them and explain you paid twice by error, it's alot less hassle and cheaper than ringing paypal and all sellers want to avoid a chargeback.Official DFW Nerd 071/£2 saver=£10

A seller who only gives you 24 hours to pay is a bad seller, especially as they can't start the unpaid item dispute till 7 days have passed.
You could have reported them as a non performing seller, but sometimes if a seller is that adamant then it's best to move on.
You are always best paying by credit card as well through pay pal. And after you have paid sometimes you need to give the system time to update itself as it can look false that you havn't paid on your ebay page when you have.Official DFW Nerd 071/£2 saver=£10

You'd be surprised how often people pay twice. It is fairly common especially if you are on dial up or your connection is slow. You shouldn't have any problems getting your money back from the seller by sending just a polite email. give them a day or two to respond and then do as recommended above - file a dispute if they don't refund.0

I was in a 'different but similar' situation, when I paid for an item, and had to file a dispute when it was not delivered and the seller made no contact in weeks. Eventually the seller dispatched it, but only after paypal had settled in my favour and refunded my payment.
The seller emailed politley and I didn't hesitate to re-pay for the item. Most sellers and buyers are honest - just ask them to refund you before worrying about it - we are all human and make mistakes!
Best of luck,
