Car Insurance No Claims Bonus Question!!

Does anyone know of any car insurance companies that will accept a no claims letter from a previous insurer that is more than 2 years old?

I have driven for 18years and gained over 12 years protected NCB before I moved to London and got rid of my car in 2005. Now I need another car and I am having trouble finding an insurance company that will honour the NCB on the letter from Norwich Union.

Insurance companies are more than happy to recognise accidents, claims and convictions that are 5 years old because it bumps up our premiums, but they are not willing to recognise no claims bonus' that have been accumulated if there is more than a 2 year gap between the end of one period of insurance and the start of another!!

Another gripe is that I have had a motorbike since 2006, and have 1 years no claims bonus from the bike insurance - however I am also finding it difficult to find an insurance company that will accept the NCB from the bike insurance.

Any details of any insurance companies that will consider the above will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My other half had the exact same problem as you last month. Most online insurance companys were quoting him ridiculous prices in excess of £1k because they were quoting on zero NCB despite him having driven accident free for 25+yrs. 3 years had lapsed since his full NCB accumulation.
In the end I found 2 companys who were willing to take this into consideration and quote on max NCB and they were Coversure and Performance Direct. Both quoted very reasonable policy prices on condition that he provided a letter from pervious insurer. I would suggest giving both a call and explaining the situation over the phone as they will refer to their underwriters and then get back to you. Dont bother trying to get an online quote as they wont fit square pegs into round holes online!
Hope this helps you get some decent prices.

Further to above answer I think if anything is out of the ordinary then a broker might be a better bet. They know the system better than you.
