I have today received a replacement laptop battery for my son's Acer Aspire 5630 that I purchased from Amazon. When turning the computer on it says "this is not an Acer battery" and will not turn on. Is this likely to be the case with all non Acer batteries or does this battery simply not work??
Will i have to buy an Acer branded battery??
Thanks for any info.

I must admit I don't know specifically how Acer implement the check, but there generally seems to be a trend for manufacturers to do this with batteries.
They ~say~ that it is done for the safety of users, but we all know that in reality they are just trying to create a monopoly for themselves so that they can make massive profits on these parts.
In your case, I would return the battery for an immediate refund. Provided the battery was sold as compatible with your make and model of laptop, the supplier cannot refuse to give you one.
It would then be worthwhile contacting a few other "compatible" makers, as I've seen suggestions that some are more compatible than others.
And for the rest of us it's worth knowing that Acer are playing these little tricks on their customers - if we stop buying their products as a result, they will eventually be forced to behave more ethically.0 -
Thanks for that, it was definately sold as compatible with that laptop so i will return it.0
