My vehicle warranty - too good to be true?

Hi, New poster here...

Anyone out there used this company

myvehiclewarranty.co.uk

they offer a full comprehensive warranty for your car, less than 10yrs old with less than 100000 miles on the clock for under £400. They are regulated by the FSA (phoned the FSA and checked) and are underwritten by Axa.

However, my suspicious nature tells me taht when something seems too good to be true, it usually is, so does anyone have any experience with this company?

Thanks for reading

not that company specifically, but its whats not covered rather than what is covered thats the issue.

I'm with https://www.warrantydirect.co.uk and feedback seems to be quite good - the only bad feedback seems to be from people who expect it to cover something thats clearly not going to be.

Tip with warranty direct - get the quote (go for the gold one or whatever the highest is), plug in all your details, and then cancel at the payment screen.

I got them down by £130 AND four months interest free credit by doing this.
  • There will probably be a limit per claim, and on another forum a chap's automated manual 'easytronic' box on his Corsa has just died...cost to replace £3500.

I've seen many warranties offered with a limit of £500, even if they honoured the claim (a minefield for the unwary) the shortfall is hopeless.
  • Always read the small print.

A car dealer was trying to sell me a warranty a while back & when i read the small print it exluded any engine repairs that could be done in the car and did not need dismantling.
    Making it virtually useless.

I suppose the bottom line is that for every £400 they take in as premiums they pay out less than £400 in claims so on average you would be better off putting the money in the bank and paying for repairs yourself.

Either cars are reliable so that causes low levels of claims or there are so many exclusions that they manage to wriggle out of most claims.

The other thing to consider is that you might need a more expensive level of servicing to keep a warranty valid

a lot of car dealer warranties really arent worth the paper they're written on - i had a top spec 3 yo alfa 156 with a 'comprehensive' dealer warranty. The passenger electric window switch failed at a heady cost of £13 and the dealer said it wasnt covered under warranty 'but dont worry we're going to fight your case'....

Check the fine print, but more importantly, check warrantydirect.
