JSA Questions - term time working? No income..

Hi all,
Not sure if this is the right place to post... i'm about to have a heart attack, i work term time on supply at a school and so during the 7 weeks summer holidays recieve no pay at all (next pay day is 17th September!) anyhoo not really a problem as my hubby works and has a good job... up until this morning that is. He's been layed off from work... they've told him they dont know when - if at all he'll be able to go back (its a small engineering firm and he's been there 3 years) He gets paid on Friday and then after that our income will technically be zero.
We rent our house and our child benefit pays our council tax - we have a little one aged 18 months - i'm not sure if we can both claim JSA or not, i'm presuming he can but how does it work with me? i'm working through an agency and although i know i'll be going back to work (i earn approx 7000 per annum when its averaged out) in September obvisouly between now and then i'll get nothing, i can be looking for work etc as long as its temporary but i'm not sure how it'd work or if i'd be allowed to start a claim?
Due to an overpayment of £200 on last years tax credits i'm not due anymore (£9.90) until May 2010! (eek) next years payment however was worked on him having his full pay this year, so i can speak to them about next years estimates and hope they up it or pay me something sooner.
I *think* we should be able to claim housing benefit and C.tax benefit in the meantime too, but i'm just all of a panic.
This is in addition to the debt's we're trying to pay off - these will need a new financial statement going out (with a big fat ZERO on it) and i've put a letter out today trying to hurry up the Bank charge claim we have on hold due to financial hardship.
sorry i've rabbitted on... any suggestions would be brilliant.

If your husband has been laid off with no chance of returning then he should go and sign on for JSA - that way he will be able to get some housing and council tax benefit.
If you work term times only are you getting enough work from temping? I am not sure how to go about your own situation however I wish you luck.0 -
your husband should claim jsa from the first day he doesnt work so telephone immediately to make a claim. He may be able to claim for you it depends on whether your work is casual, banking, agency etc as there is usually no specific contract which means technically you are unemployed as there is no guarantee you have a job to go back to, or when. When you claim JSA contact the council and council tax regarding getting a rebate for rent & ct. I would also advise you to contact IR re child tax credits as the fact you are both no longer working may change your award.
