Hi,
Looking to purchase a new (used) car. My budget is £2000
I'm looking for a reliable car for social purposes. Will be doing no more than 6000 miles per year. Its literally to visit family, do my shopping and some business miles will be done ( no more than 1000 per year - in fact a lot less).
Must have 5 doors as I have a toddler and need easy access to back seats to get him in and out.
Low tax and insurance
Any ideas??

This is saying Skoda Fabia to me, my 2 and 4 year old fit in the back of their Granny and Aunties Skoda Fabias with plenty of room for their legs which is usual for a car this size. A Ford Focus doesn't have this much room and it's meant to be a bigger car.
Reliable because these two Fabia's have 160,000 miles between them and only one electric window has gone wrong between them and Skoda tops most reliability survey charts. They are serviced "by the book".
A petrol engine would be best for your miles and use, try to find the 1.4 16v (valve) engine (not as common as the 1.4 8vMPi) which is more powerful and more fuel efficient.
Surprisingly refined and comfortable cars for their size even on the motorway.
Only downside to these car is the uninspiring styling.0 -
Buy as new and as low mileage a Nissan Micra as you can for that money. This will surely buy you the best reliability (and a good car!) for the least money, as they depreciate more than the other Jap cars. Other places to look would be Kia Picanto, I'm not sure if they've got as low as £2k yet, or Toyota Yaris (but this will definately be older or higher mileage than a Micra for the same money).0

Nissan Micra perhaps? You don't say what size of car, but I guess that a 5 door Micra would accommodate you & your son. There are loads around to choose from, condition will be all important at that price and don't be afraid to walk away if you're not happy with any aspect, there will be plenty more to choose from.
Others could be Fiesta or Corsa.
Good luck with the search0 -
Thanks very much for this...I have been looking online and Skodia Fabia seems to be a reliable car with good reviews, so will get on searching0
