Pleae help me with basic Skype questions?

How do I do the following on Skype?

1. How do I know my number on this system? Or do I need to connect a landline/mobile number to the Skype to know my number or do I have my own Skype number pre installed somewhere on my computer now??

2. When I make a call does it go through the speakers and microphone on my computer?

3. Can I buy the credit without a credit card? If so, how and where?

4. If someone is calling me, how do I answer? When I do answer, will their voice come over the speakers and my voice will be through my microphone or what?

5. How do I call a Skype number if I am using a landline? And is this just the same as a normal call?

Thanks, I’m new to this Skype and have no idea what I am doing.

You don't have a number with the standard Skype service-you just have a user name which you choose when you sign up.
You can set the audio up however you like, through speakers/mike, a headset or a USB Skype phone.
You can buy credit with a credit or debit card.
You answer by clicking the incoming call button, or picking up your phone if you have one. The sound will work as advised above.
You can't call a standard Skype username from a landline, but you can do the opposite using Skypeout, which is a chargeable service.
I suggest you have a look through the Skype help pages, as all your questions and more are answered there.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If your main priority is to get an incoming number that people can call you on from normal telephones and that you can use from your computer, try Sipgate (http://www.sipgate.co.uk/user/index.php) or Localphone (http://www.localphone.com/voip). Both of these services are free to receive calls - you only pay if you want to make or forward calls to landlines/mobiles.

Skype can offer incoming numbers so that people can call you from normal telephones, but you'll have to pay for this service. Skype is only free when used directly between two Skype users.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
