Rover 214 - Head Gasket Possibly (of course!!)
I have a 1999 Rover 214 SI, had the had gasket go and fixed a couple of years ago, now have been told by mechanic that it is in the early stages of going again, but am not sure he is right.....
I am losing water, topped it up to full about 3 weeks ago and now at minimum and it runs really rough (misfires???) when I start it cold, just for 30 seconds or so, but after that it runs fine and the temp is not going up and I do not have any signs of mayonnaise...... Oh, and when you undo the top of the water bottle after being left all night it still fizzes up and over the top....
Does it sound like it is going or something else????
If it is the HG I cannot afford to have it fixed again so just need to keep it running for as long as possible before scrapping it, do I just need to keep it topped up with water? I only do very few miles on a normal week
Thanks for any help!!

Sounds very like head gasket to me.
Drive on as long as you can i guess...0 -
If I remember correctly (and depending on the car) blown head gaskets can either let water into the oil system (mayonnaise) or the cylinders. This link: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_signs_of_a_blown_head_gasket
has loads of checks for a blown gasket, seems the 'bubbles in the overflow bottle' is a favourite.
Maybe radweld might help from a bodge-it point of view?0
