Quite Irritated!

Evening All!
Am quite irritated as i'm due to complete on my first ever house on Friday. Phoned elec/gas company today to set up new account etc. They told me that the previous occupants [it was a rental property] ran up a v large bill and were subsequently disconnected due to not paying.
Therefore, i cannot get the property reconnected until i can fax them my ownership documents, on the day of completion. They will then send out an engineer as an emergency appointment, hopefully in the same day is possible.
 The vendor as been so half !!!!!d about so many things and i'm stressed, could really do without this!!

That the utility company want to see proof that you're not just the old tenants trying it on to get reconnected seems fair under the circumstances. Not that that's any comfort to you right now. Hopefully, this will be the only glitch preventing you from enjoying your lovely new home right away. In the great scheme of things this will seem pretty trivial in a month or two, I expect.0

same day? I wouldn't bank on it.
Can you get your solicitor to fax them something before hand?0 -
The day I moved into my new house, first ever owned house,( week before last) a car fell down the 60ft slope that is my garden, smashed all the walls down and landed against the house. i was standing in the patio doors at the time!
Then a week later a leak started above the stairs when the water was off!!! and the whole ceiling is ruined....
My insurance company, have had me running round in circles for 2 weeks.
Just to put your faxing of documents into perspective!
The real work hasnt even started!!!!0 -

I mentioned this to the utility company and they said nope. Has to be from solicitor and proof of ownership on the day of completion!
It's frustrating as otherwise i have got on quite well. Sorted water and set up British Gas to switch to once i get the gas/elec connected with original provider connected.
Will get there in the end!!0 -

If you get the original suppliers of Gas and Elec don't you have to be with them for 28 days before switching?
