Work asking for personnel reference

From a up-standing member of the community.

This is to verify employment gaps where i was traveling and a period of unemployment.

To be honest I don't really know any doctors or solicitors etc not well enough to ask for a personal reference.

I'm no longer in contact with old mangers etc

What can I do?

Do you have children? My husband needs a character reference for an internal job application and the local headmaster is writing it.

If not a headteacher, do you know any "normal" teachers? Nurses? Police Officers? How old are you? If you've recently left college or Uni could a tutor or lecturer do it?

I don't know any nurses or policeman etc

I don't have children

I left college over 10 years ago

Do you have any friends with "Manager" in the title? I once used a reference from a neighbour who was a retired Army Major. (I also got a reference from the letting agency). If you have a good relationship with your neighbour maybe you could use that?
I have been a personal reference before. I was just sent a form to ask how I know the person and if they were trustworthy. I could have been anyone!
