Pirate themed food items for a party - ideas please

DS is having a pirate themed party on Wednesday at school.

Have ordered some cake toppers over the weekend to make cupcakes but it they dont arrive on Tuesday i'll have nothing pirate themed food wise to take. Have other goodies but really wanted to do something in the pirate theme.

Does anybody have any other pirate themes food ideas in case I need a backup? I'm not the best cook so ideally they need to be easy :rotfl:

Would be greatful for any suggestions/ideas.

How about chocolate coins in some sort of 'treasure chest' which you could probably make easily. Make some fizzy pop and call it grog? I found a link which suggests buying those potato smiley faces, and putting on eye patches made from ketchup, which sounds quite fun. A lot of people suggest chicken legs too, called seagull or parrot legs

What about buying a melon and some straws to make pirate boats.

Get your little one to draw some pirate designs (like skull & crossbones etc) on some squares of paper (these are your sails). Slice the melon open, and remove the seeds. Slice it into curved wedges - maybe 8 slices per melon? Then attach the paper to the straw and stick the straw into the melon as a mast. Bonus points for presenting them on a 'sea' made of blue jelly ;-)

You can add some grapes to the straws to make it more colourful!

Also have a look at this site: http://www.groovy-kids-parties.com/pirateparty.html for some cute ideas.

    Hope you have a ball!

Yeah, I read something similar with mini/normal hotdogs in buns, attach a 'mast' made from a cocktail stick with a pirate flag stuck on, but Melon boats sound better and healthier. I suppose you could do it with any fruit - apple wedges, banana boats?

I noticed my local thorntons had their choccy coins in red, silver and gold down to 35p the other day, they'd look good done in a chest, and Home bargins had some pirate craft sets in that may be of some use.

Oh and If you have a Pound world near you they had pirate party stuff in too, plates cups, napkins, invites etc...

You could make your own bunting too, print/ paint a load of Pirate skull & cross bone flags and staple them onto string and hang around as normal, they look very effective when up

Thanks everyone, I presume the teacher has decorations etc as its an end of term treat to co-incide with their pirate project finishing so I think we just have to provide edible treats and costumes.

I have some chocolate coins in so could use them on the cakes if need be but will save some for a chest - DS can help me make one later. Have some sweets left over from xmas that are still in date so can bulk it out.

The apples/melons sound good too and I have some straws and craft things.

I hope the toppers arrive though as they were very cute :A

    Many thanks again everyone.
