Road Rage driver!

Hello! On my way to work today I indicated and pulled up to the line to join the main road (nothing new there) there was enough space for two cars to turn out so i took up my position and looked left....all clear...looked right (where the other car was waiting to the opposite way) and it was a huge suv/jeep/monster truck type machine! I couldnt see so I had no other choice but to wait untill they had gone (all ok so far) anyway a car pulled up behind me,and within a second started beeping, screaming, punching the steering wheel, the windows for half a minute at least.I have never seen someone get that angry which was pretty scary. He started revving up behind me and creeping forward even tho there was no more space! He gestured,I gestured back, mainly to calm down but to no avail....I finally went and he followed straight away...I could hear the screech of tyres,I checked my mirror (new road new mirror ect) and he had both hands off the steering wheel clapping.....then tailed me......at this point I was all the emotions u'd imagine.

Now the question is a bit strange,I know I havnt done anything wrong and was doing the right thing in waiting as I couldnt see the main road (ok gesturing back wasnt my proudest moment) but this guy seemed genuinly insane, and the shocking thing was he had a kid in the car! I got his number plate but dont want to cause any trouble for myself in particular,im a pretty laid back guy but also this guy was so crazy I wonder weather or not he'd report me for doing nothing? A bit paranoid I know but you just got a vibe off this guy.

Any thoughts or experiences of road rage?

  • He was an idiot, he'll still be an idiot now. Forget about it.
  • The only reason i can see for the rager to get upset was that it may have been possible for you to have hung to the back of the right turner and view the approaching traffic from that point.....the usefulness of this depends on the angle of the junction involved.

Other than that, (and if that were the case it still doesn't excuse idiocy on his part) i fail to see his problem.

Trouble is this country has nutters wandering the streets who 25 years ago would have probably been in some sort of sanctuary, and we the normalish folk were better off for it.

My advice forget him, there's umpteen thousand more brain dead numpty's out there just ignore them as best you can, there'll be another along any minute.

  • Thanks for your post guys. Im a pretty new driver (5 months) and generally imho drive well but more so very safe. This is the first time someones been angry at me on the roads it just a bit.....shocking/an eye opener.

Gilbert and Sulivan : the view from a car behind is too tight to get a clear view,I use the road daily so its clear in my mind.

You'r all right in what your saying tho, just like the streets theres some weirdos about! its just all still new to me and im always careful in life basically. But yeh......ill have to get some relaxation cd's for when I return home!

You should have driven at 20mpg for as long as possible in front of him, then thought about his blood pressure. Works for me.

And increase the chances of the moron getting out to you at the next junction? Nice idea.

Best to ignore morons and forget about them, not antagonise them.
