Risk moving job?

Hi,

I work as a salesman. I have a fairly secure job I am out of probation period and they have had a round of redundancies already.

Another company have come to me and offered me more than double. Do I risk the move and probation period etc??

They are both well respected compnaies in my industry.

Cheers

    hi newbienewbison,

Well, they have certainly got your attention.

If they are headhunting you for twice the salary, I hardly think you need to worry about probation:cool:- they wouldn't approach you if they thought it would be an issue.

As an industry insider, you are best placed to decide on job security. But for twice the salary, it may be worth the risk.

The only other thing is where you will be happiest - does the new higher paid job mean more travelling, longer hours, more cut-throat colleagues? If the answer to these questions is no, then I think I know what I'd do.

At the very least, I would engage with the interview process and find out more - even if you don't move, it may make your employer value you more highly if you play it right.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for you help Liz - I have been through the interview process already as it was quite informal.

The travel is a litlle worse but the hours are the same. I think it probably worth a punt :)

    Hi,

I'd say it also depends a lot on your personal situation - if you are debt free with few commitments and got enough money to cope for a few months if the worst should happen at the new place, then go for it. On the other hand, if you have dependents and significant financial commitments, the (possible) security of your current job might be worth sticking with.

Good luck with whatever you choose!
