suzuki engine management

We inherited a Suzuki Ignis from FIL when he passed away. Turns out that from 2002 when he bought it, he didn't think it needed servicing as he only did about 10 miles a day. The air and oil filters, the spark plugs, the brakes, etc, have all been done (competently) by OH. It has passed the emissions tests with no problems whatsoever, and is a great little car.
However, the engine management has apparently been on ever since its first MOT. The guy at the MOT place had issued advisory notes, but it's been generally ignored. It doesn't seem to be making a difference, but it bothers me.
Suzuki themselves said they would only deal with it if we paid for a full overhaul. You don't want to know how much that was going to be.
Does anyone have any advice?

I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Hi Jojo
We've owned a number of american vehicles & they have an engine management system which is controlled by small 'valves' I dont know if this is a similar system on your car but maybe all that needs to be done is a replacement valve? Do you have access to a workshop manual for the vehicle, that may point you in the right directionSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
