Car Hire Excess/indemnity

Hi wondering if anyone can shed any light on this...

partner hired a car with my car (too complicated to explain)

has done this in past no issues

car returned and has a stone chip on bonnett - returned to car hire on 8th June 2009, they said they would be in touch to say how much the repair would be and as yet have heard nothing from them

How long is reasonable to hear from them, partner has rung them on several occassions and has not been hiring a car due to this outstanding issue...

2009 JanMasscara £7.00 Feb megcabot books x 2 £20 XFactor tkts x 2 £58.00 (couldn't go though as they only phoned on day :-( ) foundation £7.99
total so far for 09 £92.99

Legally they have 6 years to start asking you for any money you owe them.

    surely that is not reasonable....

if they require the excess as on the policy they should let him know sooner rather than later?

when he last called they had not even got the car assesed.....

It may not be reasonable to you, but is the legal situation.

well guess he has as has not hired a car again from them

    just really wanted resolution

not an issue of how long they have to claim the money but how long is reasonable for them to inform if the money is due.... ie cost of repair etc

and what do they do if the card is no longer valid which they took the deposit from as card is due to expire

ie car hire £35, deposit £100 (all taken & deposit not returned), however there is £600 excess if car needs work doing (so assuming repair is say £400 he will still need to pay £300)... can they really wait 6 years to inform you that?

    Yes.

If card no good when they come to charge it, then they can pursue you for payment by normal means, just like any unpaid debt.

But write and ask them to hurry up if you want to pay them as soon as possible.
