Car Dealerships - Discounts for Cash?

My current car is 11 years old and I am in the market for a new one. I really want a Corsa with at least a 1.2 engine. Ideally as new as possible and with a nice low mileage as I want this car to last me a good few years. I have about £5k to spend plus anything I can get offered for my current vehicle.
My question is do dealerships these days offer you any kind of discount if you are able to pay in full without the need for finance?
I’d love to be able to take advantage of the scrappage scheme but unfortunately I can’t stretch to the price of a brand new car if I could I would be going for that. So I am trying to get the best discount I can – I’ve got cash waiting just not sure if that matters so much to dealers at the moment.

Don't pay the windscreen price of a car! Discounts are nearly always available (apart from the odd car supermarket where the price you see is the price you pay - but they need to be excellent value to start with!)
Discount for cash will be available... but it's meaningless today in most cases.
You'll actually be more likely to get discount for finance because the dealer will get some commission for flogging you the finance ... even if it's zero percent.
Cash is probably the worst form of payment for most respectable dealers. It entails risk in handling and costs a small fortune to bank. They'd probably be happier with almost any other form of payment other than cash. Ask what they prefer if it gets you a bigger discount (and doesn't cost you anything)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hmmmmm well I couldn’t even get finance if I wanted to as I have a poor credit rating due to previous debts, even though they are all paid off unfortunately I have two CCJs which will remain on my credit file for another two years
When I say cash it would be in the form of a cashiers cheque which surely shouldn’t cause the recipient any problems? I’m not expecting to be able to walk in with a wad of notes
I suppose the best thing to do is go in and see what they have available and then try and haggle the best deal I can.One day Rodney we'll be millionaires£2020 in 2020 - Running Total £170 -
If you get the best offer for taking 0% finance, then go along with it. If your application is rejected, then tell them ok, I'll have to pay myself. If they try and alter the deal tell them it's off unless they honour the agreed price!0

Just what I'd do too.;)This would be like buying a ferrari and them saying; oh well we found out the V8 broke the drive shafts so we just put this lawnmower engine in instead. 99% of the people wont tell the difference and we save money on drive shaft replacements!!!:rotfl:0 -
Dealers make a good profit on finance, they don't make anything on cash, and it's a pain, as it could be counterfeit, if it's not then they have to bank it, money laundering has to be satisfied, no one wants cash anymore.0
