Conveyancing company want money, but I've already paid solicitor search fee

L&C = London and Country, a telephone only mortgage broker mentioned on the mortgage section of the site.
Tom, they offer a "discounted" conveyancing service to their clients and I think the most likely scenario is that you've signed up for this without realising when you've sent forms back to L&C - or they've signed you up for it in error.
Seems like you now your solicitor and L&Cs discount service both acting for you. I'd check any copy paperwork you have from L&C and bell them soonest.0 -
Yes, that sounds like the most likely outcome. The letter mentions that they will be receiving money from L&C.
It's a pity because they look a good bit cheaper than my solicitor.
All will be resolved on Monday when I telephone.Happy chappy0 -
Erm, bad news is if you've inadvertantly signed up then also instructed your solicitor you'll end up with some fees from both!! Whichever one you cancel is going to probably want paying for the work to date. So hopefully it's an L&C c*ck up rather than yours!!0

Our solicitor is no sale no fee.
If we stopped using them now, we would only pay for the searches they had conducted and not their time.
From the way your post reads and the fact you haven't given the L+C solicitor any money yet, it could be you could just back out of this and go with the solicitor you have already instructed.
more money in fees, but process already started, so means a quicker move hopefully!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Well, seeing how I only instructed L&C to get going on Friday I don't think that the conveyancer can have done any work yet, just sent me a letter with an estimate of what it would cost.Happy chappy0
