eBay Fashion. To Buy or Not To Buy! Help!

OK! So thanks to the MSE ebay fashionistas, I now have the eBay bug.
Having listed some items and attracted some bids, I started browsing 'for sale' items.
I have found a great top-named item, currently with a low bid on.
This item is JUST me! Colour, style, size, practical, usefulness. Love it!
But.........I already have a newish similar item from M&S in a different colour , which I do wear a lot, but I would like an item of this quality (name?) in my wardrobe too!
Dilemma:eek:......am I just buying the ebay item for the sake of it? on a purely practical basis, I don't need it, but then when did "purely practical" and "need" ever come into play in the past?!
I can afford it, but even I get it for a tenner inc P&P is it still not in keeping with the MS wardrobe clearing principles?? Or can I get away with it on the basis that it will it be an investment buy?
Oh dear! What would you do?

If it will fit well and go with lots of other things, and you really love it BID on it, but set a limit. It might have a low bid now, but the price could shoot up, especially just before the auction ends. Its very easy to get carried away in the heat of the moment and end up paying much more than you meant to. (Just like shopping in the real world!).

PS Dont forget to check the sellers feedback, and check for P & P costs.

Does it fit in with your capsule(s)?
Does it add to your wardrobe?
Will it be worn?
IF you buy this one, will you put the other top onto Ebay?0 -
Put a snipe in for the maximum price you'd be happy with offering and forget about it. That way you won't be sucked into the excitement of bidding and pay more than you're prepared to.
If you haven't used a sniping tool before try "Goofbay". It's completely free and safe to use.0 -
Set it as 'watching' and then forget about it, and then when the 'item ending soon' email comes you can decide if you want it at the price it's going for then."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

Ha!
I knew if I asked you lot, you'd tell me I can have it!!:j
Floss.....Yes, it would fit in with my existing wardrobe, no I wouldn't be one in one out with the existing item, it's new, I wear it loads, like it, fits me suits me blah blah!! So this would be an extra...but actually I haven't got half as many clothes as most of you, so I think that's ok!!:rotfl:
Katie and Min......I actually only do want it if it's cheap TBH....You can tell I'm not a 'names' junkie at heart!! I can quite comfortably set a lowish bid, then que sera sera!
goanmad...you're scaring me with your sniping tools....this is advanced stuff for me!

Bronnie, did you 'try it on' on Polyvore?! lol
Seriously though, I think it depends on what it is, and how much it is.

So what did you decide Bronnie?

I would "watch" it until the end, then put in a sneaky bid.
The way I see it is this; if you get it & it's not what you thought it was, just put it back on Ebay
If the item is of the really good quality that you mention, then you'll have no problem in selling it again.
Sometimes a poor photo/description & high postage costs will put A LOT of buyers off an item. But if you were to re-list that item with just a good honest photo & a good description, you will attract a lot more attention and usually make a profit on what you originally bought it for
I've done this a few times myself. You see an item that has potential, but a poor ad, buy it then re-sell to a better standard of advertisement.
You'd be surprised
Sorry for waffling on!0 -
miss.b you're not waffling on at all. I'm soaking it all up like a sponge and learning fast;) Sneaky bids....they're the only kind I do! I've only bought once on ebay... 2 cream leather sofas...took some advice from the great gang on the MSE ebay board and placed my one and only bid 20 seconds before the end.............and won
katie.. As they say on Dragon's Den "I'm out!"
I'm going to stick with what I've got! I would've got it if it were really cheap but for the 'name' , that was going to be fairly unlikely and the ad was ok so likely she'll get a reasonable price. Auction finishes tomorrrow night and there are 6 bidders now!
Here it is if anyone's interested!

Got my eye on a bag that finishes tomorrow too...which is something I do need. Will let you know!!0 -
Oh Bronnie I say buy it!
It's gorgeous!
