Network rip off

Hello to all, just joined forum and want some help please. My brother lives in jersey and is forever telling me horror stories about his mobile bills. I dont know the company he is with but i dont think there is much competition in the channel islands. He gets charged a fortune for calls and roaming charges as he travels quite a bit. I keep telling him to change but he says he's tied because there is only one network i just remembered i think it is jerseycom or similar. If anyone has any info on this it would be a big help, thanks. Ziggi.:mad:

It would help if you told us where he is roaming to? Might be cheaper to use a local network in the country where he is spending most of his time.

EACH Channel Island has its own Telecom (Jersey or Guernsey). There is free roaming between the isands, but go anywhere else - including the UK or France, and you are a Roamer. The only way out is to buy a local SIM in the the country visited. Eventually, the EU will be quashing these high charges later this year,

Do the Channel Islands count as part of the EU for the purposes of the new roaming charges the EU is enforcing?

The Channel Islands are not part of the UK or the EU, so the answer is no. They are Crown Dependancies.

Thanks for the reply's. Most of the roaming is in the uk. But he is telling me that even the normal charges in jersey are very high.

There are 3 networks, Jersey Telecom, Sure and Airtel-Vodafone.
