Letter of Termination

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on my situation?

I work for a local authority, started Nov 07 with a years contract. Im in an acting role i.e the engineer im filling in for is filling in another role for another engineer who is on contract to a waterworks project. In Nov 08 i received a letter of contract until the 26th June 2009 as they need to keep the last engineer there to complete the project. As the project wont be completed for another 4-6months and the LA are waiting on the go ahead to keep us all in our existing roles, i received another letter on the 26th saying that they were keeping me until the 3rd July 2009 (a weeks contract) as the dept of finance still has not given them an answer.

Other employees which were on temporary contracts that finished on the 26th June received letters of termination the week before. As this new contract is due to end this coming friday 3rd July, should i also get a termination letter? Or is it that on Friday they can just not say anything and i finish up? They wont give me any answers, its the first time i've worked for a LA and its baffling how the public sector dont have set guidelines (that i can find!).

Does anyone know anything on this? Do i just keep working until i get the Term. Letter? Any advice would be great?

Yes, you should get a termination letter - what length of notice is specified in your contract?
