Sent a parcel non-recorded

Hi all,

Sent a parcel non-recorded 1st claitss on 17th, 5 days later buyer is asking if its been sent yet... I told him to wait a bit.

Fast forward to today, parcel 'hasnt' arrived...altho i've no way of knowing if it has or not... and buyer reckons he bought the replacement item somewhere else as he needed it urgently.

I've offerred to resend same item via 1st class recorded, but is asking for a refund!.

I feel he is taking mick. He has 100% feedback from 50 ratings but sometime doesnt add up. I feel like he could've just pocked the item and pretended it didnt arrive to get a refund.

I'd prefer to re-send item recorded delivery so to fulfill original contract. Am I fine in doing this?

Alll i have from original posting is a proof of posting receipt from post office, can i use this with paypal to be seller protected? Or do i need to be recorded delivery?

Also if the parcel has been lost can i claim back from royal mail? And how hard is it. Am a little bit miffed this is first time i've had a 'parcel go missing'...

If you send a new item now you are outside the time frame for paypal protection anyway so it pobably isn't worth the hassle.

Refund the buyer and use your certificate of posting to start a claim with Royal mail after 15 working days.

Phone them or go to PO for a claim form, (my online link doesnt work anymore). After 15 working days you can do a claim for non receipt, you will need to send your COP, details of the sale and the refund along with the claim. Keep copies as a lot of claim forms also get lost.

There are added complications now as some sellers are being asked to supply actual proof of cost of item, if that happens come back and ask again.

Still think i've been diddled, all his auctions are recorded 1st class... Even if he got the item he could just say he didnt. How stupid is that?

    Wont send non-recorded now.

    :shhh:

I have a cunning plan to get all my competitors to use recorded as that makes my auctions look cheap and i go much higher up in the Best Match searches and outsell them.

I do believe though that there is a misunderstanding about how recorded works, you often see posts on the community board where people think that merely sending something recorded (even if as usual it never shows as delivered) they are somehow safe.

So if you send recorded and its signed for at the address then they cant complain its lost as royal mail delivered it?

Obviouslt the parcel can still be lost somewhere, but doesnt it stop someone pretending they havent received the parcel?
  • My top tip is to input the tracking number into paypal which generates an email to the sender with all the relevant details.

Since adopting this apporach my non delivery claims have dropped to zero.

That's no UK claims, in over 1000 sales compared to 1 in 100 before hand.

In my market place I still undercut 90% of my rivals in P&P despite sending everything recorded or special delivery so my sales haven't been impacted.

You're assuming that it gets signed for at all.
You're assuming that if it is signed for, RM will update the online info properly.

These things have a high chance of not happening. Recorded is a pretty crappy service.
