Broke on £70k ?

Hi, I don't know if this will apply to anyone on this forum, but thought it was worth a shot.
Are you (or were you) broke on £70k?
I'm currently working on a piece for glossy women's magazine and looking to interview and photograph successful, single women (late-20s to early-40s) who, despite earning a good salary, struggle financially. Basically we're
looking for someone who earns at least £70,000 a year but once the mortgage payments, socialising, loan repayments, shopping, credit card bills etc are all totted up, find that they're still scraping by.
If this sounds like you, or anyone you know, get in touch. In the first instance please email brief information (including details of your age, job, salary and why this sounds like you) and a photograph to newspaperfeature@hotmail.com
(Please note: I can provide information that verifies who I am and what I'm doing it's just that when posting on public forums I use this hotmail address to minimise spam coming to my work address.)
Many thanks,
Claire

You'll be lucky,
People on here don't waste that amount of salary on socialising, shopping etc. we are all trying to cut down, and with family commitments etc. I doubt many women would be able to earn anywhere near 70k,that's more than likely to be the figure in their debt signiture!Debt at highest £102k

Not that I'd like to be accused of being cynical but this screams "don't touch this with a bargpole".
Would a journalist from a "womens magazine" be trawling round forums such as these for a story. Maybe you could do everybody the courtesy of revealing which publisher you work for.
I'm sorry if your are genuine but asking people to send personal details to an unregulated hotmail address does seem a little bit "dodgy".
If you are genuine, I'd have a word with your IT department and get them to set you up another email address containing the "glossy magazine" or your publisher's name?0 -
OP, do you have *any* idea how fantastic the women are on here? Some of them can make a Pound coin feed a family for a week, they're a true inspiration and I bet you couldn't find a single one of them who ever be stupid enough to waste so much money on just shopping and socialising :-O0

Just to let you all know newspaper feature has had permission to post and ask for case studies.0

Right but has anyone told them that if we had 70k we wouldn't be on here. I hope they find what they need.Barclaycard 3800

I'm sorry but surely anyone who responds to this article will just be up for public humiliation?
Single/70k salary/struggling to get by?
Thats not just a salary of a 'successful' person thats an enormous salary.
This person will be ridiculed for wasting so much money, even with debts.0 -
Ok, if the OP has been vetted and is genuine then I withdraw my earlier criticsm.0

She did say 'are you (or were you)...' - OK I know 70k might be pushing it but surely there are some people around these parts whose debt problems were caused by overspending despite earning more than enough. This could well have been caused by an excessive lifestyle, too much shopping and socialising. OK they have probably seen the light now if they are on MSE but they might still have a story to tell Claire...
Here in London it seems quite easy to earn a lot (say going up to 50k) as a single person with no dependants and still let your spending spiral out of control.
It seems harsh to ridicule people because of how they got into debt. Of course getting into debt due to, say, being unable to work due to disability may be easier to sympathise with than buying ten pairs of Jimmy Choos but this is a support forum isn't it... if people have seen the light then the past doesn't matter surely.
Just my opinion...0 -
I'm not saying I personally would ridicule them, or even the people here on MSE who know and understand.
But if this article is going Nationally, many people who read and see that (who are not likely to be as fortunate as earning 70k) will not be sympathetic.0
