Hi, please can I have some ideas with regard to what I can get for a 70/80 year old's ladies' hamper. They are very mobile and into gardening, like drinking tea/coffee. I only have Tesco/Sainsbury's and Boots to go to after work and would like to put in about 10 items in each hamper from about £1-£2 per item. Can anyone help with suggestions please? Much appreciate. Thank you.

Does she wear glasses? A little box of glasses wipes are useful and around £1. Some magazines Yours, Gardeners World, or perhaps best or a puzzler. Sweets elderly often like a polo or sugar free aqua drops etc. Something to stop mouth getting dry.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

A teacup and saucer with a pack of nice teabags
A box of biscuits
A tube of hand cream
Some packs of seeds - herbs can be grown indoors at any time
A nice plant pot and saucer (Tesco had some lovely colourful glazed china ones), plant labels, mini plant watering can
Gardening magazine
Gardening gloves
Herbal shower gel (I *would* have suggested Radox bath soak, but many elderly folk I know prefer showers as they're easier to get in and out of than the bath!!)
Many of the gardening items are stocked in Tesco, but would be even cheaper at Wilkinsons or Poundland/99p store,if you have one of those nearby.0 -
Pretty much everything I would think of CJ has said!! Would def go with those suggestions!!!
Just to add to the list -
Maybe some fudge,
a small bottle of white wine (or they do small cans of brandy and lemonade/gin and tonic now),
a nice cheap paperback if you can find one,
Notepaper or blank cards
Small cake such as fruit cakeI love surprises!0 -
Thanks, Maggie
It's a shame the OP doesn't have more time to put these hampers together, as there are some real bargains to be had at the moment in places other than Tesco/Saiunsbury/Boots!
Poundland have a lovely big glossy hardback book by Alan Titchmarsh, all about royal gardens. It's a terrific bargain for just a quid.
Instead of buying paperbacks, it might also be a nice idea to buy books-on-tape (my elderly mother-in-law finds her eyes get tired and watery if she spends too long looking at the printed page). Those book bargain stores often have books on CD at good prices (I bought some Catherine Cookson ones recently which were 3 for £5).
Those A4 sized page magnifiers are good, too.0 -
My nan is in her eighties and loves to read, she also likes magazines.
I would go for some treats too - nice tea/coffee, biscuits, chocolate or fudge (or both!). If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
well so far have got some fluffy bed time socks (type thing), some mini boxes of Duc d'or Belgian Chocolates, Some OLAY face wash, OLAY face wipes, a china mug, some Twinings fruit teas, a mini bottle of white wine. Just need to get a few other things after work now, definitely going to get hand cream and gardening magazine and some biscuits. Thank you all for your suggestions. Such a great help! xMummy to a beautiful 4 month old princess! x0
