Travel insurance with good baggage cover

Hi all,

It seems there's no shortage of people willing to sell me cheap annual travel insurance, but not many come with decent baggage cover.

I have a hobby as a motorcycle sports reporter and I'll be travelling accross to Europe about 6 or 7 times this year. On each trip, I'll be taking a camcorder worth about £300 with me along with a £600 digital camera and a £1000 laptop (the data on which is priceless). Does anyone have any recommendations for a policy which comes with good baggage insurance, most seem to max out at the £350 mark.

And to put any suspicions at rest, yes this really is just a hobby - I'm not trying to wangle some professional insurance on the cheap - although I probably wouldn't say no if someone paid me to do what I do now for free!

Thanks in advance for all advice offered.

The baggage cover never seems enough to cover my gadgets either!

However, I have home and contents insurance through Hiscox which then covers my possessions anywhere in the world.

Went with them after totting up the contents of my home and realising that many home contents policies are woefully inadequate!

    Welcome JonR

I have home contents with Halifax and get all my personal possessions/baggage covered by their policy so can afford to get a cheaper travel insurance policy.

    Cheers

No - just had a similar problem. My holiday insce personal effects wouldn't even cover the cost of my camera - let alone the wife's clothes! And there was no option to increase that element.

So had to go back to my Home contents policy and increase (around £35) the cover for personal effects whilst out of the home. I think there's a 30 day per trip limitation on that - but that's not out of line with Hol Insce?

Might be worth searching outward from this link? :-

Did have a quick search via MoneySupermarket and the best had personal stuff at £2500 - but the max for a single item within that is £250 - which is not a lot of good? Sorry - looks like you might also have to go the Home Insce route?
