Bin success

Is anyone else finding that BINs seem to be doing very well at the moment? I had thought that after the various cashback sites stopped their promotions that these would die of, but my sales seem to be going up which is weird.

I usually have dutch BINs on one of my ids that turn over rather nicely, but on the last 10p BIN day I listed about 50 items that had 'stuck' and didn't sell on standard auctions. I think I've sold about two thirds of them so far. AS things sold I listed more as BINs, and they are selling too, it;s really weird as a lot of these items don't sell on a standard auction at all.

This is definitely another example of me having no idea what sells and what doesn't, and more importantly why.....

  • I too have found BIN's selling a lot more than normal auctions lately, although I have added a Best Offer to all of mine & if the offer is close to the price anyway then I have accepted it which I think as made a difference.

I bought something this week which was BIN @ £7.99 or best offer, I offered £5 & it was accepted so I was glad as £7.99 + postage was a bit much for me so I can see how this Best Offer part helps sellers & buyers.

Some people (including myself) shy away from auctions for many items - particularly for everyday items (i.e. not collectables). I just want it _NOW_ and delivered quickly.

I think alot of people have caught on that there are bargains to be had on ebay. Case in point - batteries. I often need weird batteries for my kids tamagotchi, or the remote control for the car alarm. There is a lady on ebay 'cheaperbatteries' who sells them and a very reasonable price. In fact, i'm not sure how she makes a profit - though she must with over 12000 feedbacks. Sorry if i went too OT on this - but the basic line is - alot of people don't want to bother with auctions, and sniping etc..

i think BIN do well as people like the "hit" of buying there and then and have the security that the item they want is theirs at a price they want to pay, i had some curtains listed a few times starting at £!4.99 no bids but put a BIN on at £16.99 and sold the first day  the joy of ebay :D

I mostly use bins as they tend to be finish quicker and can get a better price than auctions and with best offer i can treat it as a normal auction.

I think it was you buggu who suggested the BIN with best offer on the last 10p day? If so, thanks as that really worked for me.

Anything that I had where I was unsure of the price I offered best offer on, and sold quite a few of them as well.

The best thing about BIN is the ability to move stuff fast and increase turnover. If you can !!!! 2 items a week with £8 profit on a carefully priced BIN is that not better than shifting 1 a week with £10 profit. Too many folk push too hard to maximise the profit on an individual item instead of concentrating on shifting more items per week.

One of the biggest problems on EBay is oversupply which drives prices down very quickly. I prefer to list many of my items on a 1 day auction with a sexy BIN then when it sells I list another. Yesterday I shifted seven of one item and I am pretty sure if I had listed seven on 7 day auctions then I would still be sitting with 6-7 still waiting to sell (probably all with a host of watchers) all not willing to commit and at the end I am sure I would have sold each for much less.

One other thing I have really given up on is trying to find the best time/day to end listings and this is helped with a good BIN price. I find you can list this way at any time of day and in fact an early morning end time can help. If there are a few sellers active an early morning end allows those who missed the night before to see your item is the next to finish and will BIN to save the hassle of bidding (and losing) the next evening.

As a buyer for I tend to use BIN much of the time to save the hassle of watching, bidding or sniping and the losing out to the late higher offer. I buy a lot of my packing stuff on EBay and I know I pay over the odds but its not exciting stuff and I just want to buy it aand move on.
