0 feedback winning bid with missing address details

I've got a new buyer with 0 feedback and his address has been confirmed by paypal - but it is missing a house number.

I've emailed the buyer and he's given me one, but I'm not sure whether to trust him. Awful to say, but I know the area he comes from and it's got a bad reputation.

I'm reluctant to pay registered mail as it eats into my profit.

Any suggestions would be gratefully receieved.

He needs to update the address to show the FULL address in paypal, to include the house number, and then make the payment, otherwise you won't be protected by Paypal.

We all have to start somewhere, and a gentle nudge in the right direction is sometimes all that's needed.

easy thing is to say no bidders under 10 positives.
you can help yourself avoid these problems

If the address is confirmed, surely it's complete isn't it?

Not all addresses involve house numbers.

If you send the item by recorded or SD, then the PO usually checks the validity of the address too when presenting the item at the Post Office.

You can write what you like, but it doesn't mean anyone takes any notice.

We all started off with less than 10 positives at one point.

I would also add that it's promising that the buyer has at least responded, if you emailed him and heard nothing then that would be a warning sign that he was dubious.

Also, it depends what value the item has as to the postage rate and whether you would want to send it via some sort of trackable method.

I personally think you are being a little too over cautious, with it being local area and your indication that it has a 'bad reputation'. I am sure that of all the items I sell and post out, there are bound to be some that don't go to the best of neighbourhoods, however I don't have chance to sit and research/vet all of the addresses I send to.

Thanks for all of your replies.

It's definitely missing a house number - a quick search on the net confirms this.

I don't like discounting ebayers with less than any stars, as someone said, we all have to start at zero.

I'll cancel the payment and ask him to update his address on paypal and purchase again (if he's still willing)

    Thanks again.

I don't mind sending my stuff to dodgy places, as long as they have a full address and decent feedback I can rely on! :D

Of course, I just think you can just get a bit unneccessarily wary when it's somewhere on your doorstep. That said, I have also had similar experiences with Freecycle and had some really good stuff, from what I would consider to be the bad areas.

I think you've got me wrong - I'm not saying bad places aren't worthwhile places to do business.

It's the combination of bad reputation, missing address details and no feedback that doesn't make it an easy transaction for me.
