i'm new to ebay, this is the first thing i've bought and i plan to start selling off baby stuff as my son outgrows it. so please be gentle!!

i bought a bumbo from someone, they posted it second class which apparantly should take 3-5 working days, i paid within 5 mins of winning it on 7th june, had a email to say it had been supposedly posted on 8th, and it only arrived yesterday, in brown paper which was hanging off the box, frankly it was a miracle the address label stayed on and it actually got here! then when i opened it,

this is the picture on ebay
!BTmMFSgB2k~$(KGrHgoH-EMEjlLlwLjKBKJUuCSigg~~_12.JPG

this is what it actually looks like
SDC10409.jpg

it looks a lot better in the picture than it does IRL - it is covered in orangey brown discolouration and pen marks, and looks generally filthy. i have cleaned it as best i can but this removed no dirt so the seller has obviously tried to give it a wipe over. the state of it has really annoyed me as i was expecting something which looked like the photo and if i'd paid £5 more i could have bought a brand new one once postage was included.
naively i gave feedback before i collected the item from the post office as the seller answered my questions on where was it fully and promptly.

is it worth bothering to do anything about this? what could i do? i dont want any bad feedback as i really need the money i will make from selling and where its the first thing i've bought i really dont know if it is worth it? all i know is i bought this with the intention of using it on family days out but i'm ashamed to take it out because it looks filthy.

ETA - the item number is 150349466592

Firstly as a buyer you can only get positive feedback. How was it described and can we have a link to the listing. This maybe a case of "you should have spent the extra fiver".

I have previously had & then sold a bumbo on Ebay & have found that they do get discoloured like your one here. Although when I sold mine I made sure I said in the description where the discolouration was so the buyers knew what they were getting.

I would firstly conact the seller & explain why you are not happy & see what they say.

If you dont feel you can use it as it is then return it (tracked) for a refund - unfortunately you wont get your return postage back, you will get your initial payment & postage refunded (if the buyer doesnt play ball then you can go through paypal for a refund). The fact that you have already left feedback may not matter, a few posts recently have shown that paypal have gone in the favour of the buyer even though they have already left feedback.

If you feel that its Ok to keep or not worth the hassle to return then the only thing you can do is add another comment to your feedback.

Fisrtly ignore the posting issue. Sellers have 7 days in which to post, it was sent as stated so you have no cause for complaint. I was actually going to start a thread today about the perception of 'time' due to the way ebay show things in the listings.

The other two matters, packaging and condition do give rise to a complaint. The problem is though that if you do a SNAD complaint you will need to return the item tracked at your own expense.

Personally the first thing I would suggest is that you contact the seller and explain you are very unhappy with the condition and it is not as stated.

Either one of two things has happened here.

    1. The took the photo outside to show it off in bright light to hide the discolouration.

    2. The took a photo of the other seat.

My guess would be the first as you can kind of make out the discolouration in the photo.

From the lisiting I would guess it was second hand when bought. So what will your angle be for a not as described claim?

    Did you pay by paypal?

thank you all for your advice! however if as kprigg said they do get discoloured then i may as well keep it really, as if i send it back i will lose the £6 paid for postage and then have to buy another one anyway. i will send the seller a message though and possibly amend the feedback depending on what she says. thanks!

sorry chippy cross posted. i would be saying that although the item isnt technically as described i do feel that the description could have been more detailed and the picture was IMO inaccurate having seen the item?

It's definitely the same thingymjiggy in both photos, but the first one has just had the colour brightened, which has somewhat disguised the brown marks.

Let the seller know that you're disappointed as they hadn't described the discolouration. What do you feel would be a fair solution? A partial refund? Obviously it's not worth your while sending it back...

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I think you can make out the discolouration in the part that goes between the legs. Most however wouldn't buy from a stranger something for their youngster.

pinkshoes, i'm not going to ask for anything really, going to make my thoughts known and see what she says. i think i have worked out what the discolouration is though as i've just checked my ebay messages and the last one she sent said she was glad i received it ok and her baby loves it cos she uses it to feed him and mentioned how easy they are to wipe clean... really? lol

chippy, i dont think your post is entirely accurate given the size of the ebay baby section?
