I managed to get a great deal with Singaporeair in January to Syd, can anyone recommend a reasonable hotel for 2 night stopover in Singapore?

Depends how much you are willing to pay really and what you want to do.
I stayed in The Scarlet hotel when I was there a couple of years ago. It is just on the edge of China Town (which I loved). Really lovely boutique hotel. http://www.thescarlethotel.com
The Fullerton is a fancy hotel and very nice, if you have the cash to spend. Or of course Raffles LOL.
I would suggest staying away from Orchard Street as it is very noisy and very busy. With the Singaporean transport system it will be easy to get there is you wanted to. Metro is really handy and gets you almost everywhere.
As an aside....Boat Quay and Clarke Quay have bars and restaurants that are nice, and of course.. a must ... The Long Bar in Raffles for a Singapore Sling.
Enjoy your trip, we were there for 4 days and really enjoyed it."People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like" - Clive Hamilton on Consumerism.0 -
If you're flying with Singapore Air you should definitely book it through the Singapore Stop-over programme. Very cheap rates, and includes transfers to the hotel from Changi and a bunch of other stuff. I stayed at the Allson which was fine, just round the corner from Raffles. I'm sure that lots of the hotels on their list are even better - the Allson is one of the cheaper ones. See http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/content/promo/ssh/hotels/UK/index.jsp?v=-1796013664&0

Trixietoes,
Thanks for the tip about Orchard Street, I think the Scarlet is a bit "far out" for us but will checkout the Quay's.
Ifc321,
Of course you are right, should use SA stopover options and may try the Allson. We are only there two nights and have an 0700 flight to Syd so not a lot of time. Should have stayed a bit longer really although we have the same SO on the way back.
Thanks for your replies.0 -

Good - have a look through the SA hotels and see what's on offer. To be honest 4 nights is plenty of time to see Singapore.0 -

Stayed in the Furama City Centre recently.. situated perfectly between China town and Clarke/boat quay.
When you're there, you absolutely must do the Singapore trishaw ride.. book through Viator.com. Best part of our trip by far!!
edit: link to trishaw ride (and chinese dinner) is

like I said, if there's one thing you do, do this!0 -

It's Orchard Road - just in case you look for it on a map and can't find street. It's 3.3km of shopping malls
Most of the large chain hotels are situated on or around Orchard Road e.g. Hilton, Marriott, Fullerton etc.
I lived there for 4 years and so never needed to stay at a hotel so I'm not much help there, though I'd probably not go to a Hotel 81, just in case they come up...
If you have time the Night Safari is quite an experience to see and the new Singapore Flyer is quite nice though a little pricey.Wins: Fillipo Berio Spray Oil0 -
73amanda, On the SA website its $1 for first night up to 30/9/09 so no good for me.
beaker99, The trishaw ride looks good but I really only have one day in each direction and 4 hours is along time. Thanks for the Furama tip0 -

If you go to chinatown, there should be trishaw riders around that you can just hop on. No bookings required and it shouldnt take tt long.0
