car insurance policy with a car registered with a different name

Can I insure a vehicle in my wife's name if the registration document is in my name?
For example we have two cars both registered in my name. I want to insure one of the car's under my wife's name so she can maintain her no claims discount and it works out cheaper.
I know it may be case of sending the registration to the DVLA for a name change , but I don't really want to do this because it adds another owner to the registration document.

Usually insurers are quite happy as long as the document is in a spouses name. You will see individual insurers requirements on line (usually when you read and agree to their assumptions when you ask for a quote)0
