Icing on the cake

I’ve made a number of fruit cakes for my daughter’s wedding, which I’m going to marzipan and ice. Then cut into pieces, wrap and put in customised individual cake boxes for all the guests Could anyone advise on the following
- What is the best icing to use? As we are cutting it up we are only icing the top
- We’ll need a bit of time to cut and package the slices, so how far before the wedding I can ice the cakes?
- The individual cake boxes are going to be on several layers of a cake stand and there will be a round 16cm cake on the top layer which will have a floral decoration on the top and ribbon around it. Can this be iced all over with the same icing?
- Any other icing advice would be very helpful.

Last time I iced a cake it took about a day for the icing to solidify properly, although I guess it depends on the thickness and type of icing you use really.. Not much use I'm afraid though. I'd say you should maybe ice it the evening before the day before the wedding (if that makes sense) to make sure it's dry and so that you have enough time to cut it, although doing it a little before then would probably be fine as well..Sometimes.I.Wonder.Why.I'm.Still.Here..Sometimes.I.Think.I'm.Going.Crazy.0

My Mum made and iced my wedding cake. She used royal icing which keeps for a couple of weeks wthout any problems as long as you keep it in a cool dry place and not somewhere humid.

once you have marizpaned and iced either ready roll sugar paste or royal you cake is sealed and will keep for months......years if brandy or such like is added
onced iced do not keep in a air tight container as this will make the icing sweat0
